Record Raid! November 15th at House of Blues

Record Raid Flyer

Record Raid is New Orleans' biggest and longest-running record show. Over 20 record dealers from across the region combine for one day to form a giant record store selling LPs, 45s, cassettes, CDs, and more. We have 25 record vendors from all over Louisiana and beyond selling new and old records ranging from low-price deals to hard-to-find rarities.

This time we're partnering with Louisiana Vintage Festival and House of Blues to bring a little more excitement, with extra vintage band t-shirts, music memorabilia, and special appearances from important fixtures of the New Orleans music community.

Early Bird entry means a chance to nab the good stuff before everybody else, starting at 10:30am. General admission starts at noon.

Buy tickets in advance here.

Open to all ages.

Vendor Information December 10th 2022 Record Raid

SIGNUPS ARE CLOSED. WE ARE AT VENDOR CAPACITY

It's been a while, but I think it's OK to do another Record Raid now.

Where: Howlin' Wolf 907 S Peters Street, New Orleans

When: Saturday, December 10th 2022. 10am-5pm. Load-in begins at 9am, need to be out by 6pm.

How Much Does it Cost to Sell? $50 per 8 foot Table if reserved before October 15th. $70 after that. Registration closes November 26th . If this is your first Record Raid, choose the first-timer option for a 50% discount off your first table. Limit of 2 tables per vendor. Chairs will be provided for free. You cannot provide your own table.

You may have noticed that table prices have gone up since the last Record Raid. Unfortunately, they've gone up at the table rental companies as well, and we were barely covering expenses previously.

Also, first-timer discounts are now included on the sign-up form. Please only choose them if this is your first time selling at Record Raid. Otherwise you will be refunded and not included on the list.

What you can sell: Music of any format, vintage, used or new. Record labels are free to sell their music as well. Consumer audio equipment is great too. Music-related ephemera (books, movies, memorabilia, t-shirts) are OK so long as they're not the focus of the table. We do make some exceptions, so feel free to ask.

What you can't sell: Food and drink. As above, Crafts are generally discouraged unless they're clearly a "side item", musical instruments are discouraged, though you may leave a paper at your table letting people know (so long as they're not the focus). You should be selling *something*, for instance you cannot set up a table promoting another event.

Venue Load-in and Load-Out: Load-in starts at 9 am. No advance table designations, first-come first-serve. Load-in will be from the side bay doors on N Diamond St. For the last show we had you entering from the corner or through the bar. This should be more direct and better, perfectly smooth for hand trucks. And by the way, you should bring a hand truck if you have one. We will not open earlier than 9am, so there's no reason to come at 8am. But I know some of you nuts will do it anyway.

About the Venue: Howlin Wolf is a long-standing music venue in the heart of the New Orleans CBD -- fairly close to the French Quarter and the interstate. This is our first time working with this venue, as the New Orleans Jazz Market was unresponsive when planning (though it looks as though they might be coming back to life). Parking in the area will likely be sparse, but there are nearby parking garages. If you're traveling, there are many hotels very close by. It is climate controlled and there is a kitchen and bar, not to mention other eating options within close walking distance. Our primary concern is lighting: it's adequate but not ideal. We tried to compensate for this last time but need to try a little harder This is a large concert hall and it is unlikely that there will be power available at your table.

About Record Raid: Record Raid has been New Orleans' largest record show since 2010, averaging between 300 and 400 customers. We like to keep an informal, fun and funky vibe that can cater to serious collectors but not intimidate casual buyers. Our free entry helps keep a diverse group of shoppers. We want to create a show where people can be excited about records and talk about them while they shop. We also like to have DJs at conversational volumes playing obscure vinyl.

Other details: It's generally a REALLY good idea to have a Square reader, venmo account, or some way to accept credit cards. We'll never force you to accept credit cards, but it's nice for customers. I've heard from several vendors about how carrying a credit card reader has given them a big bump in sales. You are your own storefront: Record Raid does not need to know how much you sold (though it's nice to give feedback) and any issues are between you and the customer.

We expect to have a table at the front to help people with questions (though the event itself is free). We've been assigning nametags to tables and people. The point is to make sure people know whose records belong to who, and who they should talk to when they're ready to buy. To be honest, we don't care what’s written on the nametag exactly, the important thing is that it matches what's written on your table.

People often ask what they should sell. My answer is always "Play to your strengths". We get a very diverse crowd, and there's often somebody that's into what you have. Our recent poll had a few people complaining that there was too much classic rock and other "beginning record collector" stuff. People are definitely looking for deals, but don't leave the big ticket stuff at home either. Things that I always hear people saying they want to see more of: punk, reggae/ska, 90's-2000's indie rock.

We will continue to have early bird admission from 10am to 11am at $5 per head.

Covid precautions and refunds: At the moment there are no mask or vaccine restrictions in place in New Orleans, and unless that changes or the venue imposes stricter requirements, we'll stick with that. At the last Record Raid nearly a year ago I allowed vendors to cancel if they had any misgivings, but that was in the midst of a surge. At this point I will only refund vendor tables with proof of a positive covid test (or other extenuating circumstances).

July 13th Record Raid has been cancelled

After much consideration, we have decided to cancel Record Raid. Recent NOAA models have the storm shifting towards New Orleans, and project over 50% chance of flash floods on Saturday afternoon. Also, the situation with the Mississippi river levee is simply too unpredictable. At the end of the day, it’s just a bunch of records, and we don’t want records to be on anybody’s mind when they should be thinking about their safety over these next few days. And it would be a nightmare scenario if somebody’s house flooded while they were at our event.

Vendors, please contact recordraid@recordraid.com if you would like your table refunded.

We plan to reschedule very soon. Be sure to join the mailing list to be notified when the new date arrives.

Record Raid! December 9th At Ace Hotel

Record Raid

Next Record Raid is at Ace Hotel (600 Carondelet St) Sunday, December 9th.

Doors open to early birds at 10am with $5 admission, FREE admission from 11am-5pm. All ages

We have 30 vendors, one quarter of them brand new to the lineup. You could spend all day and not see the same record twice.

What is Record Raid? We're New Orleans biggest and longest-running record show -- sort of a pop-up record store, with vinyl, CDs, tapes and more being sold from vendors all over the region. Looking for something rare? You might find it here! Getting started with collecting vinyl and looking for some cheapies to get started? You'll find plenty. New and used, no genre restrictions, just a good time.

This is our first event at the Ace Hotel and will include food and beverage options (as well as an ATM) right inside the building. We try to make these fun -- hang out, enjoy yourself, talk with other music nerds. And don't worry, Saints game will be projected onto the wall.

Here's our full-size flyer if you want to spread the word.
